Mission Statement
The Department of Psychology seeks to provide comprehensive psychological services through assessments, evaluations, individual, group and family therapy, treatment planning, and education in collaboration with multi-disciplines in serving the needs of a diverse in-patient and out-patient population in an effort to enhance the quality of mental healthcare throughout The Bahamas.
Vision Statement
The Department of Psychology aims to promote and restore clients/patients to optimum performance in areas of interpersonal, occupational and vocational functioning.
Clinical Psychologists employ diagnostic assessments, cognitive and behavioral techniques to diagnose and treat psychological disorders.
Departmental Goals
- Promote the welfare of individuals under our care through humane means provided by professionally trained and ethical clinicians;
- Encourage continuing education, development, and refinement of clinical skills through attendance at local and foreign conferences, seminars and workshops, through scholarly research;
- Remain current in clinical research, use of psychological tests, equipment and tools used for services provided;
- Educate medical and allied professionals in the varied roles that psychologists play, services they provide, and skills that can be utilized in mental healthcare as a means of promoting the role of the psychologist as an integral and vital member of the multidisciplinary treatment team;
- Utilize research skills in developing and evaluating the efficacy of the various treatment modalities in determining level of patient and consumer satisfaction with the services provided;
